Speak french to me, baby.

Burgundy is famous for Dijon (city or mustard), beef Bourguignon, Abbaye de Fontenay, and of course... Wine.

Pinot noir and chardonnay (chablis) to be specific. Bourgogne (Burgundy) wines are celebrated around the globe for their terroir-driven approaches to wine making, focusing on the environs and single-grape excellence. They're also famous for their world heritage listed vineyards, considered a protected part of wine history.

Charton et Trebuchet is no exception to this, being a fabulous example of what the regions pinot noir develops into. It's grown in a single vineyard from 100% pinot noir grapes in the 'golden triangle' of the Côte de Beaune, becoming the perfect example.

Despite all this technicality, this wine is not complicated and deeply enjoyable.

This is a classic entry-level burgundy for someone wanting to understand what the region has to offer. Moreover, it's simply an easy drink.

The main notes are strawberry and raspberry, which are bright and light, deeply refreshing and pure. There's a light earthiness and a hint of oak, but it's subtle. The nose is soft and fresh.

It would pair perfectly with brie, brillat-savarin, epoisses and buttered baguettes in summer, or a big beefy stew in the winter. This is an exceptional choice for a Sunday afternoon cigarette and cheese board date with your best friend...

Or a romantic home cooked dinner with someone who speaks just enough french to lie to you.
